Road
1 Courses
Road 1 for Professionals is tailored for planners, engineers and
designers; Road 1 for Everyone includes all others. The nine-hour course
provides instruction in the basic principles of bicycling. The course combines
classroom discussion and activities with on-road, on-bike practice.
Safe
Cycling for Adults
In this four-hour course you will learn how to safely operate your bicycle in a
variety of situations. You will gain confidence knowing, through interactive
discussion and on-bike skills practice, that you are riding legally and safely.
Both workshops, plus LCI workshops (described below) can be scheduled in your
area of the state by request.

a League Cycling Instructor
Teach others how to build confidence cycling with traffic
Becoming a League Cycling Instructor (LCI) to teach BikeEd is a great way to
help present and future cyclists in your community. Certified instructors can
teach BikeEd classes to children as well as adults. Help bring the joy of safe
cycling to others.
Look for the next course offering then go to
www.bikeleague.org/educenter/seminars.htm to download your application.
You'll fax it to: 202-822-1334 and send your registration fee to the League of American Bicyclists.
Pre-requisites, pre-screening and registration procedures for a typical
course
(6 weeks before
seminar)
1. Successful completion of the League BikeEd Road I course from an LCI,
earning a certificate ? or equivalent, with approval from the seminar
instructor.
2. League membership: verify your League membership; all instructors must
be current. If you are not a member, you can join online for $30 at
http://www.bikeleague.org/support/join.htm; renew online at
http://www.bikeleague.org/support/renew.htm; or call
202-822-1333.
3. Fax biographical information/waiver form, indicating date and
place of seminar (fax number below left). Follow-up with a telephone call and
use your credit card to pay the non-refundable $175 fee. Your registration fee
includes the Effective Cycling book and video.
4. Receive materials and prepare for the course by studying the book and
video per the study guide.
Two weeks before the seminar?
5. Self-administer the pre-test, using it to help identify those
items that need further attention. Send the completed pre-test to the
trainer at least 10 days before the first evening of the seminar.
6. Contact the site coordinator listed to make arrangements for
travel, lodging, or commuting to seminar location, etc.
