*LCI Update/Master Instructor Training & FTBSEP Update for Regional Trainers

On Thursday, May 13, 2010, from 1:00-5:00pm, at the Florida Pro Bike/Pro Walk Conference, in Lakeland, Preston Tyree, LAB’s Education Director, will be providing a LCI Refresher and Master Instructor course (open to any LCI); and Dan Connaughton, Director of the Florida Traffic and Bicycle Safety Education Program, will provide a FTBSEP program update.  Dan will provide the FTBSEP Update first (from 1:00-2:00) and this is open to any conference attendee.  Preston will then conduct the LCI Update/Master Instructor course from 2:00-5:00, however, this will be restricted to LCI’s only.

The “Master Instructor” designation will permit LCI’s to “train-the-trainers” for the League’s new Cycling Skills Clinic classes. Only LCIs who go through this training will be allowed to certify Youth Instructors in 2-hr training sessions. These “Youth Instructors” will be volunteers, bike shop employees, and others who want to work with children doing the Cycling Skills Clinic classes. This means they will be able to work with children in a secure area (e.g., parking lot, asphalt sport area/court, rodeos, etc.). They will not be certified to teach classroom or on-road.

Whether you have been regularly teaching FTBSEP workshops or if it has been awhile since you have done so, attend this special session to update your LCI certification, receive the Master Instructor training, and learn about recent developments with the FTBSEP and youth pedestrian/bicycle safety education in Florida.

Regional Trainers who are unable to attend the full Florida Pro Bike/Pro Walk conference but can attend this session, will be reimbursed by the FTBSEP for the special one-day conference rate of $75.  Regional Trainers who attend the full conference and this session, and pay the regular conference registration fees, will be eligible for a $75 reimbursement from the FTBSEP.

If you plan to attend this session and would like to be reimbursed the $75, or have any questions, please contact us at: safety@hhp.ufl.edu
