Here are some links to information that may be of use to you.

Free publications Get your free copy of Florida Bicycle Street Smarts before they're all gone. Also available: handbooks and guides from the Florida Dept. of Transportation and VISIT FLORIDA.

Glossary of Florida Transportation Acronyms (GFTA) Now you can nod your head and really have a clue when your pals sling acronyms around. Spend some time on this page and you may even sling a few around yourself.

Contacts Here is a link to FDOT's (see acronym page above) lists of Florida Bicycle/Pedestrian Coordinators. There's a bunch of them all throughout the state so there's no excuse for you not to contact those nearest you for information and assistance. Sometimes it's lonely out there. They would love to hear from you.

Bikes Fly Free

by Dwight Kingsbury

If ET isn't riding in a basket mounted on the handlebars, there are two ways to fly a bicycle free of charge on an airline.

  1. Take a folding bicycle that fits in a suitcase (http://www.bikefriday.com/ or http://www.bromptonbike.com/). This technique also works on buslines.
  2. Bicycles of members of cycling organizations can fly free.

Adventure Cycling members' bicycles can fly free on Northwest Airlines. Restrictions apply. See http://www.adventurecycling.org/special/flyfree.cfm.

League of American Bicyclists members' bicycles can fly free on US Airways, Northwest, TWA, Frontier, American Airlines, and America West. Restrictions may apply. See http://www.bikeleague.org/flyfree.htm.

International Mountain Bicycling Association members' bicycles can fly free on the same airlines. Restrictions may apply. See http://www.imba.com/membership/faq.html.

I've been told that the US Cycling Federation also has such a program for its members. Its website is at http://www.usacycling.org/.
